NEW YORK 鈥 A federal appeals court has granted the government鈥檚 request for a temporary stay of a ruling it issued earlier today. The earlier ruling had suspended the Trump administration鈥檚 policy that forced asylum seekers to return to Mexico and remain there indefinitely while their asylum applications were processed in the United States.

The 桃子视频, Center for Gender & Refugee Studies, and Southern Poverty Law Center are challenging the policy.

Judy Rabinovitz, special counsel in the ACLU鈥檚 Immigrants鈥 Rights Project, had the following reaction to tonight鈥檚 court action granting the stay:

鈥淭his is a temporary step and does not change the fact that courts have ruled multiple times against this illegal policy. We will continue working to permanently end this unspeakably cruel policy.鈥
